How To Style A Blazer For Date Night

Plaid boyfriend style blazers are very on trend right now, and there are so many ways to wear them! They are perfect to pair with a silk cami, skinny jeans, and flats for a more casual work environment or dress it up with some heels for dinner with the girls, and look effortlessly put together. I tried a new way to wear this trend though, and it love how it turned out. My new favorite way to wear a blazer is as a dress for a sassy and chic date night look!

How To Pull It Off

There are a few key things to trying out this look for yourself.

  1. You want to make sure you find a blazer that is going to be long enough so you aren’t at risk of flashing the entire restaurant. Boyfriend style and menswear blazers are the key to this since they are a bit oversize and longer so you can actually wear it as a dress. I am 5’2″, so this works for me. If you are above 5’4″, you could try this look by pairing a slip dress underneath so you have a bit more coverage in case the blazer is too low or has too high of a slit to be comfortable.
  2. Make sure you belt it! With an oversize blazer/dress, it can look boxy and make you look like you have no shape without a belt. Throw a belt on your waist, and you have instant shape and curves in all the right places! I used a thicker, black Gucci belt to make more of a statement, but you could also do a thinner belt to achieve the same look.
  3. Layer those necklaces! With the deep V of the blazer, necklaces add some interest and dimension to your outfit. I layered a choker and a coin pendant for a simple, but flirty look. You could also add another layer or two of dainty, longer necklaces as well.
  4. The right shoes! I chose to wear a simple, black strappy heel with this outfit since I already had a lot going on with the plaid print on the blazer and the statement Gucci belt. If you have a solid color blazer, you could do a fun colored heel instead, a cute ankle bootie, or if you are tall, you could even do an over the knee boot for colder weather.
  5. Be confident! Confidence is key to pulling off this look, so own it and be the goddess that you are!
  6. If you don’t feel comfortable trying to pull a blazer off as a dress, you can ease into it by pairing a similar length simple black dress underneath and belting for shape. You could also do a cute black faux leather mini skirt with a silk cami and layer the blazer on top. Or you could buy a blazer dress so it’s already a perfect fit!
