2019 New Year Resolutions

Happy New Year! I hope you all had a fun and safe night to ring in 2019! I had a great dinner with my husband and a couple close friends, and then a champagne toast and one of my favorite places on the Country Club Plaza, so it was the perfect start to the year. Last year was full of new adventures, such as Matt and my first Carribbean cruise(which was so amazing!), big purchases with buying our first home, and lots of great dinners and memories with friends and family! I have so many big dreams and goals for 2019, and I just know it is going to be an even more amazing year than last year.

That being said, I am one to always make lists of my goals and resolutions for the year since it helps me to actually keep track of my progress and push me to be my best self year over year. I wanted to share what I have on my resolution list for this year, and would love if you would share some of yours with me!

Resolutions and Goals

1. Spend more time living in the moment. I am becoming much more Type A and want everything perfect 99% of the time as I have gotten older. I am going to try to live IN the moment everyday instead of worrying about our home looking like a magazine or if my hair got messed up by the wind, etc… This will be a hard one for me, but I think will also be SO good for me to do to enjoy the people I love more, and truly engage in every experience in life and try to be more carefree.

2. Get into a consistent morning routine. I work from home, so it can be tough to not get into the habit of waking up and opening up my laptop to start going through emails first thing in the morning, which is what I do now. I will start each day with a workout, meditation, or something for ME so I can have a better and happier work/life balance and more productive days where I don’t feel stressed by the afternoon trying to get everything done that I need to. Also, eating breakfast everyday will become part of this!

3. Go to bed earlier. I am a night owl and always have been. No matter what time I got up in the morning, I always seem to get a second wind around 10 or 11 PM and then am up late. This is also the time I feel that I can focus more and have so many creative ideas flowing, so then I stay up WAY too late and am so tired the next day. My goal is to go to bed earlier so I can WAKE UP earlier and have that time in the morning to focus and be creative before work as well.

4. Develop healthier eating habits. Lately, I have been so busy with work, travel, and the Holidays that I am not eating well AT ALL and consistently skipping breakfast. My goal is to eat very healthy during the week, i.e. chicken, fish, veggies, fruits, and breakfast everyday. On the weekends I will let myself indulge a little, but overall make healthier eating choices when I am out as well, such as opting for a salad instead of the burger and fries. This will be a tough one since I love pasta and tacos, but I know it will give me so much more energy!

5. Step up my fitness routine. Through most of 2018, I was doing so well with fitness by working out consistently 5 to 6 days a week. I was even doing TWO programs, with Kayla Itsine’s Bikini Body Guide(BBG) and Insanity! I felt so energized, strong, and just great about myself! After going to Cabo, I was so busy with work and then Holidays, so I really dropped off my workout game and am starting my workout program today!

6. Travel more and PLAN travel more in advance. My husband and I went to so many amazing places in 2018: Carribbean cruise from Florida to Nassau, Bahamas, Grand Cayman, Ocho Rios, Jamaica, and Cozumel, New York City, Estes Park, CO, and Cabo San Lucas. Matt and I always spend a lot of time at the Lake of the Ozarks over the summer as well. We have a few fun trips already planned for 2019: Cabo again, NYC again, CO again, but would love to plan another big one and a few more small ones. We are so bad about having an idea of WHEN we are going, but not booking until a week or two out, which is terrible since the cost is typically much higher. So, my goal is to sit down and actually plan out and book each trip when prices are still less expensive!

7. Go on regular date nights. Matt and I have been together for almost 13 years and married for 5 and a half years, so it is easy to get caught up in everything that needs to be done or going out with friends and not actually doing date nights where we truly spend time with each other. My goal is to do a date night at home or out at least once per week with just us, and that can be as simple as making dinner together and sitting at our dining room table eating instead of in front of the coffee table watching TV to something fancier like a romantic dinner out. This will also involve putting our phones down more and focusing on each other!

8. Shake up the weeknight routine. Matt and I are the worst about sitting down after work and then just watching TV, looking at our phones, or working on stuff around the house(which I am fine with this, but it doesn’t always end up as productive as it should after a glass of wine or two haha) and since I work from home that can mean I don’t leave the house for days! My goal is to get out of the house at least a few times a week to go on a walk together or go do a fun activity that is happening in our city to switch up our routine a a bit. Kansas City has a whole calendar of activities going on throughout the city, so I am wanting to utilize this a lot more!

9. Post on the blog on a consistent schedule, as well as make a plan to be more engaged, consistent, and real on all social media platforms. My goal with this is to post content on the blog 3 times a week(M/W/F). I may end up starting with 2 and moving to 3 times as I get the hang of it, but I want to be putting up fun things for y’all on a much more consistent schedule. I will be posting content on my IG at least once a day and become much more active with stories, Twitter, Facebook, and Pinterest too so you can really get to know me and I can engage with y’all much more! If you have anything you want to see from me this year, please let me know in the comments or email me! I want to be putting up content you want to see!

10. Finish all house projects. Matt and I have been in our house 10 months now, and we have gotten A LOT done: new wood floors downstairs, painted 4 rooms, changed out a few light fixtures, and furnished all but 2 rooms in the house. There is still a lot left and my goal is to get it all finished in 2019. Here is what we have left: renovate master bathroom, make a room into my closet/vanity area, put in a fire pit in the backyard, freshen up the landscape, put wood floors in upstairs, and paint the rest of the house on the inside(we started and now want to paint every room haha!) This will also include furnishing the second guest room, my office, and doing finishing touches with art, etc… around the house. Let me know if you want these projects shared as they are completed!

11. Remember to be thankful everyday. I am definitely one to plan and always look forward to what is coming in the future, so I can tend to forget about everything I have to be truly thankful for every day. My husband and I have come so far from when we first started dating from growing on a personal level separately and together and growing professionally. I will take the time every day to appreciate how far we have come and the life that we have. We are blessed and worked so hard to be where we are now.

12. Know when it is time to let go…of people, situations, and things. This one is tough since I am so sentimental for people in my life and items from my past. I seriously have the toughest time with spring cleaning every year since I usually want to keep most everything! Sometimes you naturally grow apart from people as you go on different paths, and it’s okay to let those people go and not force a relationship that is not there anymore. I truly do believe that people come into your life for a reason whether it be for a season or a lifetime, but it’s time to let go of anyone holding you back or dragging you down. I also have a goal of actually going through and organizing my basement and purging my closets to get rid of and donate anything we don’t need or have a space for anymore.

13. Sit down and make a budget for the year with my husband. My husband is the numbers man in our relationship and he always has a budget in his mind, but I don’t always know where that falls. There have unfortunately been times that he has said to just spend a “reasonable” amount when I am out shopping, and our versions of reasonable are drastically different, haha! So this year I want to make sure we are on the same page and actually set out our budgets for home projects and decor, going out with friends and on dates, travel, shopping, and self care so their will be less surprises when my idea of a budget doesn’t match up to his(mine is typically much higher, oops!).

14. Stress less. As I mentioned previously, I have become much more Type A and OCD about everything being perfect as I have gotten older, which in turn stresses me out and then I am trying to do more than any one person physically can. This has caused me to breakdown a few times this year, so my goal for this year is to stress less and not get overwhelmed if the house is not HGTV ready when people come over or if I have a zit right before a night out. I will be getting more into yoga and meditation to help with this, as well as planning out my to do list for the week with realistic goals of what needs to be done each day and spreading it out instead of trying to do it all in one or two days time.

15. Push myself out of my comfort zone with my goals. I have a lot of big goals for myself this year personally and professionally, in my full time jobs and in the influencer world. I dream big and will be going all out by doing things that I am scared to do, and sharing these goals with my husband to motivate me and push me along. Success can be a scary thing, but this year I am not going to be afraid and work hard to achieve everything I put my mind to!

16. Step up my skincare game. I am all about trying new skincare items, and I love a good facial, but I have definitely been slacking lately. I KNOW I shouldn’t go to bed with makeup on, but I have done it more than I would like to admit this year, and I can see my skin changing on me. My goal is to get with an aesthetician to get a skincare routine that works for me, as well as explore the world of medical spa facials and at home medical grade care more than I have in the past. I will end up with the best skin of my life in 2019 and will share my finds of what works for me and what doesn’t along the way.

17. Talk to God everyday. I still try to pray every night and as needed throughout the day, but my goal is to actually talk to God more about what I am thankful for, what I am struggling with, and let Him guide me in all aspects of my life this year. I would also love to get more involved in going to Church on a consistent basis.

18. Stop comparing myself to others. It is easy in this social media driven world we live in to compare my path to someone else’s. I am really working on that, and coming to terms with the fact that my path and my journey is different from anyone else’s and that everything happens for a reason. I see people with huge success and know they have worked so hard for what they have achieved, but it can be easy to get jealous of that vacation, house, or bag. My goal is to be inspired and motivated more for the people who work hard and put my head down and work even harder to achieve my own goals!

19. Surround myself with people who have similar goal paths in life and those who are already truly successful in their field. I have a few very close friends that I am inspired by and that are motivated and great to be around and really want to dream big, and I want to focus on surrounding myself more with people who are that way. I will also find a mentor in two fields I am interested in that have already achieved great success so I can learn as much as I can from them and push myself to be better. Jim Rohn once said, “You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with,” so I am choosing wisely and can’t wait to make new friends too!

20. Read more books. I love reading and do so often when I am traveling, especially if I am traveling alone for work. I would love to start that again this year and find some great new reads! If you have any suggestions on ones that you love, please let me know!

21. Say “YES” more! We have a limited amount of time on this Earth, so my goal this year is to say “YES” to a lot more since you never know what fun or opportunity you might be missing by saying “No.”

Thanks for reading and please share with anyone who might enjoy this! Let me know some of your resolutions and goals for 2019 in the comments! I would love to hear yours and get more inspiration!

Hi! Quick question that’s totally off topic. Do you know how to make your site mobile friendly? My weblog looks weird when viewing from my iphone 4. I’m trying to find a template or plugin that might be able to correct this problem. If you have any suggestions, please share. Thanks!
